When answering the phone, people typically just say, "Hello". However, some may say, "Hi," or "This is Steven," or "Ken speaking," Others may use their family name, such as by saying , "Thompson residence."

When saying goodbye, there are many methods to politely end a conversation. Favorites include, "OK, well, nice talking to you. I'll talk to you later," or "Well, it was good talking to you. Keep in touch" or "Sorry, I've got to run now. I will call you soon." All of these phrases are usually responded to by a short goodbye, such as, "Sounds good, Bye," or "Alright, goodbye."
