Unit:6 Holidays and customs

The most important American holidays are Christmas and Thanksgiving. Others, like Easter, the Fourth of July (Independance Day), Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, Columbus Day and Labor Day are also major holidays. Mother's Day and Father's Day, though always held on Sunday, are also important. There is also a holiday to remember Martin Luther King, and another, President's Day, to honor past presidents.

Popular, though  less formal, holidays are Halloween and Valentine's Day.

It is common on most holidays to have parades in small and large cities. Barbecues, fireworks, and picnics are also common. For religious holidays such as Christmas and Easter, many people attend church services. And, on Thanksgiving. it's common for family members from all around the country to have a reunion and eat together.

There is a growing industry combining TV, computers and the Internet. Many cable companies already offer this services. Soon, TVs may be the center of a home's entertainment and computing activities.
