Unit 5 : Childrenhood

Like most kids around the world, American children enjoy video games and sports. Boys and girls often play with each other's toys and wear similar clothes, as parents are not so likely anymore to insist that boys and girls look and act differently.

Children in elementary school finish class every day at 2:00 or 3:00 PM. In the afternoon they spend a lot of time playing and running around. Many also take music, art or ballet lessons. Parents usually allow them to use their free time the way they prefer. So, after school, children may go to friends' houses or play at a local park. Of course, very young children are watched more closely by their parents. Also, most parents restrict what kinds of TV programs their kids watch and how much TV they watch every day.
