Reciting article: American History

Unit 17 Book 3

American history is taught to students at all levels of education, from elementary school to junior high to high school. Aside from reading textbooks, students take trips to museums, watch movies and programs about the historical topics, and write research reports.

School children are taught both the good and bad aspects of American history. For example, slavery is talked about openly and honestly. So is the way Native American were badly treated during the expansion of America.

It is now customary to refer to the American Indians as "Native Americans". Also, Black Americans are referred to as "African Americans". This linguistic change reflects the cultural heritage and background of these groups.

Some of the best American history museums are in Washington  D.C.. The Smithsonian Museum of  American History is particularly good. It houses thousands of historical treasures.
